This evening Gamer Man and I got home from work about the same time and were both ravenous (I caught him eating a pre-dinner cookie… for shame!). Not wanting to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, I cooked up some couscous, defrosted 2 chicken breasts in the microwave, popped them in a pan and dumped in 3/4 of a cup of Fresh & Easy’s Mojo Criollo poultry marinade. We’ve used the stuff before and loved it, so how could braising chicken in it go wrong?
I still don’t see how it did, but somehow the kitchen gods were against me and turned our chicken dinner into an unpalatable mess. Besides being questionably cooked through on my part, the piece I popped into my mouth was so salty and citrus-ey that it was all I could do to swallow it. Since I have a higher threshold for salty-tangy foods than Gamer Man, I instantly knew this was not going to fly down his gullet anytime soon… so we gobbled down our couscous and roshambo’d to drive down to the local Del Taco and grab some tacos (hamburger for me!). I wound up driving, but I don’t think it’s going to happen that way again seeing as the drive-thru guy took our paper bag connection as opportunity to hit on me (WITH GAMER MAN IN THE CAR NEXT TO ME).
I believe we’ve all learned a lesson here:
Me: Marinades are for marinading… not braising or sauces.
GM: He literally can’t take me anywhere.
Oh, and that Del Taco definitely hits the hunger spot :)
